Time for a little dish & tell. 🍷🥧🐷 Pig’s head, b Time for a little dish & tell. 🍷🥧🐷

Pig’s head, braised ox cheek… buttery greens. Tell me November’s arrived without telling me November’s arrived.

There’s a lot to love about Winsome. A kitchen in full flight, a dining room with an electric buzz and staff who seem genuinely delighted to have you there.

It’s a rather cool setting for a menu that makes absolutely no concessions. Rich, gutsy British cooking, it will positively encourage you to take a second glass of red and makes the onset of November seem considerably more appealing.

The terrine? Excellent.

The ox cheek pie? Everything you’d hope for beneath that golden crust.

And the madeleines? Well they have been occupying an unreasonable amount of my thoughts ever since…

A very good reason to be in Manchester. As if one needed another.

I have 47 ideas for dinner until somebody actually I have 47 ideas for dinner until somebody actually asks me what I fancy. Then suddenly I’ve never eaten a meal in my life. 🤷‍♀️

Fortunately, past me was considerably more organised and actually wrote a few things down.

So here’s a little inspiration from the Hey Lolly recipe archives. All tried, tested and absolutely worth making again.

Recipes over on heylolly.co.uk 🍋

I’ll still spend twenty minutes deciding, obviously...

Another day, another unnecessary amount of burrata Another day, another unnecessary amount of burrata. 💁🏼‍♀️

This time, with cheat’s sun-dried tomatoes (an hour in the oven, considerably less Mediterranean sunshine required), homemade pistachio pesto and a golden, lemony basil crumb.

A little taste of Puglia, courtesy of a British postcode and a fairly enthusiastic approach to olive oil.

Glug generously 😏

🍂 1 November. We have a peculiar habit of keeping 🍂 1 November.

We have a peculiar habit of keeping things ‘for best’. The beautiful ceramics stay in a cupboard, the linen is saved for guests, and the candlesticks only seem to clock in when December arrives.

I’ve never quite seen the sense in it. An ordinary lunch is as good an occasion as any. And that, broadly speaking, is the spirit of November on Hey Lolly.

There’s going to be a bit more Mediterranean cooking for colder days, quite a lot of butter beans, roasted vegetables and, inevitably, more burrata...

There will be a few more reviews, alongside some new places and discoveries worth sharing. And since November apparently makes discussing Christmas socially acceptable, I’m turning my attention to the festive table. Think beautiful ceramics, thoughtful little finds and food made for lunches that have absolutely no intention of ending on time.

My Mediterranean Christmas table edit will be published shortly, with plenty more seasonal inspiration to come.

Delicious and easy food to make at home, interesting places to visit and a reminder to stop saving the nice things for special occasions.

The good plates are coming out. 🤎

🫒 I thought it was about time I introduced myself 🫒 I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly.

Hello, I'm Lolly. Whether you've just found your way here or you've been following for a while, a very warm welcome.

My granny Sybil (God bless her soul) and my wonderful mum have a lot to answer for. By the age of ten, I had a meticulously organised collection of rollodexed recipes and grand dinner-party ambitions rather beyond my years. Weekends were spent poring over recipes, trying my hand at whatever I could and helping my mum prepare for parties I took every bit as seriously as the grown-ups did.

These days, food still occupies a considerable amount of my thoughts. I simply love to cook, discovering wonderful restaurants and travelling to places where the food is just as inviting as the scenery.

My cooking has a Mediterranean leaning, although I'm easily distracted by a good ingredient, an interesting menu or something I've eaten on my travels that I can't wait to recreate at home.

Hey Lolly is also my creative outlet, bringing together my love of photography, food styling and writing. I take great pleasure in getting a photograph just right, but finding the words is every bit as satisfying.

I could tell you the pasta was excellent, or insist you try the fish dish I've been making at home. But then I'd want to tell you about the Sicilian market that inspired dinner or the table setting bought back from Tuscany. Food is invariably the starting point, but there's usually a much bigger story unfolding around it. And that's the bit I love putting into words.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you'll find something delicious to cook, somewhere lovely to visit and plenty of reasons to come back.
