A small, sharp shot of brightness can do more for a day than another cup of coffee ever could.

Pineapple Turmeric Ginger Lime Shots, for days that need sharpening!
Some days don’t need fixing. They just need sharpening a little wouldn’t you agree? A bit of brightness. A jolt of flavour that makes everything else feel clearer. That’s usually when I reach for these Pineapple Turmeric Ginger Lime Shots, cold from the fridge, golden, faintly fiery, and gone in a mouthful.
I make these in batches and keep them in the fridge. That’s it. When lunch feels a bit flat or I need a quick lift before the gym, I grab one and move on feeling energised.

One Shot a Day, Keeps The Doctor Away…
What makes these shots genuinely enjoyable is balance, not bravado. The turmeric brings warmth and depth, but it’s held back just enough to avoid bitterness. Ginger follows with a fiery heat, clean and immediately energising, while the lime cuts straight through everything with a sharpness that wakes the whole palate first.
Pineapple changes the mood entirely. It adds sweetness, yes, but more importantly, it adds juiciness. The shots feel rounded rather than medicinal. Bright, but not harsh. Rich, but not heavy. The temperature matters too. Cold, they taste fresher and more precise. Warmed, they lose their edge. I have no interest in that version whatsoever.
There’s also texture to consider. Blended properly, they’re smooth, not gritty. You notice the flavour and not the mechanics of this wellness shot.

Why I always keep a batch in the fridge
I make these when I want something ready without having to think about it. They’re the sort of thing that make sense made ahead, poured into small bottles, shoved into the fridge, and forgotten about until needed.
They’re good mid-day, when focus starts to drift and another coffee feels like the wrong move. One shot, taken standing at the kitchen counter, usually does the trick. They’re just as useful before the gym, sharp, bright, and light enough not to feel like fuel, but still enough to wake everything up.

A quiet word on feeling good
Turmeric has its reputation. Ginger has its role. Lime brings freshness. All true. What matters more is how these shots make you feel after you’ve had one. A bit clearer. A bit lighter. More awake.
If you’re in the mood for something equally sharp but more indulgent, my Salmon Crudo with Ruby Grapefruit has the same bright edge. Or, for something grounding, the Orange, Fennel & Chickpea Salad with Feta sits beautifully alongside a week like this.
Make the shots once. You’ll know quickly if they’re for you. And if they are, they’ll become part of the background. Which, in my opinion, is exactly where the best recipes belong!

Ingredients
For the shots
- 1¼ tsp ground turmeric
- 8 –9cm fresh ginger peeled
- Juice of 2 limes
- 375 g fresh pineapple peeled and chopped
- 2½ –3 tsp raw runny honey or maple syrup, to taste
- Generous pinch of fine sea salt
- 150 –200ml cold water to loosen
- Pinch of cracked black pepper optional
Instructions
Blend
- Add the turmeric, ginger, lime juice, pineapple, honey or maple syrup, sea salt, cold water and black pepper, if using, to a high-speed blender. Blend for 1 full minute, until smooth.
Rest and re-blend
- Let the mixture sit for 30 seconds, then blend again briefly. This helps the ground turmeric soften and gives a smoother texture.
Taste and adjust
- Taste and adjust as needed. Add more honey or maple syrup for sweetness, more lime for sharpness, or more water if the shots feel too intense.
Strain and chill
- Strain through a fine sieve if you prefer a smoother shot, or leave unstrained for more texture. Decant into a sealed bottle or small jars and chill.
Serve
- Shake well before pouring and serve cold.
Notes
- Start with 1¼ tsp turmeric. Ground turmeric can turn bitter if you go too heavy.
- Pineapple is doing important work here; it keeps the shot juicy and bright rather than harsh.
- A tiny pinch of salt balances the bitterness without making the shots taste salty.
- Black pepper is optional, but it adds a little warmth and is often paired with turmeric.
- Keep chilled and shake well before pouring.
- Best consumed within 48 hours.
